EMDR

Eye-movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized psychotherapy treatment that can only be provided by trained professionals. EMDR is designated as an effective treatment by the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and many other international health agencies.  This powerful psychotherapy approach has helped over an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress.

EMDR first came on the therapeutic scene as an evidenced-based approach to the treatment of trauma. During the past 30 years the research has widened to include EMDR as an effective treatment for symptoms including self-esteem, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, loss of a loved one, break-ups, and phobias. The psychology community acknowledges that while many of us do not have what is called a “Big T(trauma),” many of us have experienced little “t’s” that have affected that way we interpret ourselves and others. These little t’s can impact our mood and anxiety levels despite conscious attempts to change our perception of them as adults.

Erin McConnell has completed the training necessary to be a provider of EMDR. She has been using EMDR with clients on a regular basis as a core practice of her therapy. Many of the clients who have used EMDR in their therapeutic process have expressed amazement at the expediency of results they have received. EMDR can be used in conjunction with the traditional talk therapy and art therapy that Erin McConnell provides to her clients.
